The Day of Pentecost

Sunday, June 4

Pentecost is celebrated 50 days after Easter and 10 ten days after Jesus ascended to Heaven. Pentecost is based on the New Testament, where it refers to the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Christ as described in Acts 2:1-31. The liturgical color of the Day of Pentecost is red. Red symbolizes joy and the fire of the Holy Spirit. Clergy wear red vestments, and in modern times, the custom has extended to all people in the congregation in wearing red clothing. Here at First Christian Church, we also celebrate our birthday on the Day of Pentecost. Our congregation was founded in 1874. That makes us 143 years old. Happy birthday FCC and bring on the Spirit!
